1. Who we are
This website, morrisongroup.ca, is operated by Morrison Immigration Corporation (“Morrison”, “we”, “us”, “our”), a company incorporated in British Columbia, Canada. Immigration advice and representation are provided by Ted IP, a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC-IRB), licence number R706946, in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC).
We are responsible for the personal information under our control. Questions about this policy, or about how we handle your information, can be sent to info@morrisongroup.ca.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to personal information we collect through this website, through our enquiry and assessment forms, through the messaging channels we publish (email, telephone, WhatsApp, WeChat/WeCom, Telegram, LINE), and in the course of providing immigration consulting services to clients.
3. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details — name, email address, telephone number, messaging handle, and country or city of residence.
- Assessment information — when you complete our free assessment form or otherwise enquire, we collect the details you choose to give about your age, education, work history, language ability, family situation, current immigration status, travel and immigration history, and your objectives.
- Client file information — if you retain us, we collect the information and documents needed to prepare and submit your application. This can include identity and travel documents, civil status documents, educational and employment records, financial records, medical and police certificates, and previous correspondence with immigration authorities.
- Signature and agreement information — when you sign a retainer or other document electronically, we collect your signature, the date and time of signing, your email address, and the technical audit information described in section 6.
Some of this information is sensitive. Immigration matters often involve health information, criminal history, family circumstances, and financial details. We treat all of it as confidential and collect only what is necessary for the matter at hand.
Information collected automatically
- Technical and usage data — IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit.
- Cookies and similar technologies — see section 8.
Information from others
We may receive information about you from a referral partner, a family member or employer applying on your behalf, an educational institution, or an immigration authority, where you have authorised that or where the law permits it.
4. Why we collect it
We use personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and assess whether we can assist you;
- give you immigration advice and prepare, submit, and manage your application;
- communicate with immigration authorities and other bodies on your behalf, with your authorisation;
- prepare retainer agreements, invoices, and receipts, and administer payment;
- maintain the client records we are professionally required to keep;
- send you information about our services where you have consented to receive it;
- operate, secure, and improve this website; and
- meet our legal, regulatory, and professional obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pay or accept payment for referrals of clients.
5. Consent
We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your knowledge and consent, except where the law allows or requires otherwise. Submitting an enquiry or assessment form is your consent for us to use that information to respond to you and assess your situation.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and professional restrictions and to reasonable notice, by writing to info@morrisongroup.ca. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer act for you. Withdrawal does not apply retroactively to anything already done, and does not extend to records we are required to retain.
6. Electronic signatures
Where a retainer agreement or other document is signed electronically, we use electronic signature software that we operate on our own private server. Your documents are not processed by a third-party e-signature platform and are not used for any purpose other than executing and storing the document you signed.
To make an electronic signature legally reliable, the system records an audit trail alongside the document: the signer’s name and email address, the IP address used, and the date and time each document was viewed, signed, and completed. This audit trail is retained with the signed document.
That server is located in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Please read section 7.
7. Where your information is stored, and cross-border transfer
Some of your personal information is stored outside Canada, in the United States. Specifically:
- this website and its hosting are provided by Bluehost on servers in the United States;
- our electronic signature server, which holds signed agreements and their audit trails, is located in Phoenix, Arizona, United States; and
- certain service providers listed in section 9 process limited information on servers outside Canada.
This means your personal information may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities of the United States, or of any other country where a service provider stores data, under the laws of that country. We use contractual and technical measures to require comparable protection, but we cannot exclude lawful access by foreign authorities.
If you would prefer that your documents not be stored on a server outside Canada, tell us before you sign anything and we will arrange an alternative, including signing on paper.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for it to function — for example, to remember your language preference and to keep the site secure.
Google reCAPTCHA. Our forms are protected by reCAPTCHA v3, provided by Google. It collects hardware and software information, including device and application data, and sends it to Google to distinguish real users from automated abuse. This is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We use it only to prevent spam and abuse of our forms.
Analytics and advertising technologies. We may use analytics and advertising technologies to understand how this website is used and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising, including Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel. Where these are active, they set cookies and collect information such as your IP address, the pages you view, and how you reached our site, and they share that information with Google and Meta respectively under those companies’ own privacy policies. You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s opt-out browser add-on, and you can manage advertising preferences in your Google and Meta account settings.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
9. Service providers
We use a small number of service providers who process personal information on our behalf, under contract, and only for the purposes we specify:
- Bluehost — website hosting and email (United States).
- Hostinger — the private server running our electronic signature application (Phoenix, United States).
- Google — reCAPTCHA form protection, and website analytics where active (section 8).
- Meta — advertising measurement where active (section 8).
- Elementor — website form delivery.
We may also disclose personal information to an immigration authority or tribunal in the course of representing you; to a translator, physician, or other professional where you have authorised it; to our professional advisors; to our regulator where required; and where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
10. Messaging platforms
If you contact us through WhatsApp, WeChat, WeCom, Telegram, or LINE, your message travels through that platform and is subject to that platform’s own privacy practices and to the laws of the country in which it operates. We do not control those platforms. Please do not send identity documents, financial records, or other sensitive material through a messaging app unless we have asked you to; we will tell you how to send documents securely.
11. Marketing communications
We send commercial electronic messages only in accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). If you download a guide, submit an assessment, or become a client, we may send you related information about our services. Every such message includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by writing to info@morrisongroup.ca. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop messages about a matter we are handling for you.
12. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes it was collected for, and for as long as we are required to retain client records professionally and by law.
Client files are retained for a minimum of six years after the file is closed. This is required by section 7.2 of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants’ Client File Management Regulation, which provides that a client file must be kept in a secure and accessible location for at least six years after closing. A file is only treated as closed once all outstanding fees or refunds have been settled, your original documents and property have been returned to you, and you have been notified in writing that the retainer has ended. When the retention period expires, the file is securely destroyed and we record that it has been destroyed.
Enquiries and assessments that do not become files are deleted once they are no longer needed. Signed agreements and their audit trails are retained on the same basis as the file they belong to.
13. Security
We protect personal information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and strong authentication on our systems, access restricted on a need-to-know basis, and secure storage of documents. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the law requires.
14. Your rights
You may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and how we have used and disclosed it;
- ask for a copy of it;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- withdraw consent, subject to section 5; and
- ask us to delete information we are not required to retain.
Write to info@morrisongroup.ca. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. In limited cases the law allows us to refuse access — for example, where doing so would reveal personal information about another person — and we will explain why.
15. Professional confidentiality
Beyond privacy law, information you give us as a client is subject to the confidentiality obligations that the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants imposes on licensed consultants. We do not discuss your matter with anyone outside the firm without your authorisation, except where a rule of the College or a law requires disclosure.
16. If you are in the EEA or the United Kingdom
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies to you, our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (providing the services you retain us for), your consent (enquiries and marketing), our legitimate interests (operating and securing the website), and compliance with legal obligations. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to complain to your national supervisory authority. Transfers of your information to Canada and the United States are made on the basis of the European Commission’s adequacy decision for Canada and, where that does not apply, on standard contractual clauses.
17. Children
This website is not directed at children. Where an application involves a minor, we collect that child’s information from a parent or legal guardian, who consents on the child’s behalf.
18. Links to other websites
Our site links to government and third-party websites. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. Material changes will be announced on this page.
